Indian Navy's warship INS Trikand mission deployed in the Gulf of Aden for maritime security operations, rendered critical firefighting and SAR assistance to Cameroon-flagged LPG carrier, MT Falcon operating off the coast of Djibouti. The ship undertook firefighting operation in close coordination with Civil Tug hired by Shipping Company and successfully brought the fire under control. 24 out of 26 crew members (25 Indians & 1 British) who were able to evacuate the ship, were rescued by merchant ships in vicinity. A team of firefighting and medical specialists from INS Trikand boarded MT Falcon and recovered the mortal remains of two missing crew, braving intense heat, damaged structures and toxic fumes. The mortal remains were subsequently handed over to the Embassy of India in Djibouti.
