REAR ADMIRAL PRAKASH GOPALAN ASSUMED CHARGE AS THE CHIEF OF STAFF, SOUTHERN NAVAL COMMAND

Rear Admiral Prakash Gopalan assumed charge as the Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command, from Rear Admiral Upal Kundu on 26 January 2026. An alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy, Rear Admiral Gopalan was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 July 1993. A Navigation and Direction Specialist, he has commanded IN TRV-72, INS Kora, INS Mysore and INS Mumbai. During his career spanning more than 30 years, he has held several key operational and staff appointments, including Defence Advisor at the High Commission of India in Colombo,Sri Lanka and Fleet Operations Officer of the Eastern Fleet. He is graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and National Defence College, New Delhi. 

Prior assuming his present appointment, the Flag Officer served as Deputy Commandant, Indian Naval Academy.
