12th COMNAVGUARD Meeting (East)
Visakhapatnam, 17 December 2024 – The 12th COMNAVGUARD Meeting (East) between the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard, was successfully conducted on 17 Dec 24, at Visakhapatnam.
The meeting was co-chaired by Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command, and Additional Director General Donny Michael, Coast Guard Commander (Eastern Seaboard).
The agenda for the high-level discussions included enhancing interoperability through joint training, operations, and communication, exchanging best practices to strengthen maritime security frameworks and refining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for improved efficiency in responding to maritime contingencies.
The meeting also emphasised the requirement of coordinated efforts to address emerging challenges, such as illegal fishing, maritime pollution, and transnational crimes in the region, while continuing to ensure the safety of seafarers and coastal communities.
This collaborative initiative reflects the unwavering commitment of the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard to enhancing interagency coordination, safeguarding India’s maritime interests and strengthening our strategic presence in the Indian Ocean Region.
