Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, CNS called on Hon. Dr Harini Amarasuriya, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, in Colombo on 23 September 2025. The interaction encompassed wide-ranging discussions on the enduring partnership between India and Sri Lanka in the maritime domain, reaffirming commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation through enhanced operational engagements, Capacity-building initiatives and participation in multilateral forums such as International Fleet Review IFR MILAN and the Admiral’s Cup Regatta. Hon. PM underscored the strategic importance of the ocean for maritime nations and emphasised the imperative of collective efforts to safeguard this shared resource. She highlighted the potential for deeper collaboration in addressing transnational challenges like anti-narcotics operations, IUU fishing, marine pollution and terrorism at sea. She also emphasised closer coordination for search and rescue missions and information sharing and acknowledged the need for bolstering training ties between the Sri Lanka Navy and Indian Navy. The meeting reflected the shared vision of both nations to promote peace, stability and sustainable development in Indian Ocean Region IOR through mutual trust and cooperation.
