Clothing and Bedding

Trainees are to be in possession of both summer and winter uniforms (working rig, ceremonial and mess dress)
  • Normal country wear for a temperate climate, and atleast two lounge suits. For visits to the plains, tropical clothing is necessary.
  • A dinner jacket (tuxedo) with soft shirt and collar is the normal evening wear for special functions. Tropical evening dress may be required in the plains.
  • Riding kit, if officers wish to participate in riding.
  • Overcoats/Rain coats.
  • Cotton and tweed clothes.
  • For children, gum boots, play pens, cots and mattresses can be procured locally.

A light pullover is essential throughout the year except in the months of March to May. A raincoat is essential during the monsoon months.

Accommodation

  • Officers mess for Single Officers within the unit.
  • Houses earmarked for accommodation for overseas officers are furnished with essential items of furniture.
  • Married officers' accommodation is within 3 kms of the college.

Officers' Mess

  • The officers mess is located close to the college.

A panel of domestic servants, available for employment, is maintained by the college. Their pay ranges from Rs.375/- to Rs.600/- per month.

Arms/Ammunition

Officers importing arms and ammunition for sporting purposes are required to obtain a transit license, on arrival in India. Transit license for fire arms can be arranged by the college, provided details of bore, license, type, maker's name, registration number and quantity of ammunition are provided one month in advance, prior to the date of arrival of the officer in India.Immediately on their arrival, student officers will hand over arms and ammunition in their possession to the Quartermaster for safe custody in the armoury. Necessary arrangements exist for drawing and deposit of private arms.

Animals/Pets

Keeping of animals other than dogs or cats in bungalows, servant quarters or compounds, is prohibited.

There are no hotels in Wellington. The nearest hotel is at Coonoor, about 3 to 6 kms., from Wellington. The rates vary from Rs.1000/- to Rs.5000/- per day for a double room (boarding and lodging).The Wellington Gymkhana Club about a kilometre from the college offers residential accommodation at Rs.725/- +20% tax per day (for members), Rs 1750/- + 20% tax per day (for affiliated members) and RS 2675/- for non members for two persons.

Transport

    Bus services in Nilgiris are good, but car or a scooter is an asset. Private cars are available for hire.

Medical Facilities

The college has a Medical Inspection Room. Cases requiring investigation/ hospitalisation are referred to the Military Hospital, Wellington located one and half kilometres from the college. Services of specialists are available at the Hospital. The Hospital also has a well equipped dental centre.

Schools for Children

Several good schools (from Ist standard to XII standard) are located at Coonoor and Udhagamandalam.
