The ninth edition of Vizag Navy Marathon VNM, a flagship event of Navy Day Celebrations in City of Destiny, is scheduled to take place on 15 December 2024. Online registrations for the marathon will commence on 15 August 2024, through the official website www.vizagnavymarathon.run. Addressing the press conference on Monday, GVMC Commissioner Shri P. Sampath Kumar, IAS, emphasised that Vizag Navy Marathon is more than just a sporting event. He noted that the VNM offers a unique opportunity for participants to experience the stunning landscapes of Visakhapatnam while challenging themselves in a world-class event. Shri P Sampath Kumar encouraged all residents of Visakhapatnam to register and make this marathon a memorable occasion. During the press conference, the newly developed Website and registration details were unveiled. Commodore Pradeep Patel, Commanding Officer, INS Kalinga ENC and the Race Organiser - VNM, welcomed the citizens to participate in large numbers to embrace a healthier lifestyle while enjoying the beauty of the city’s coastline. He added that a promo run, along with a conditioning and strength training program for VNM, is being organised at Dolphin hill and RKBeach on the first Sunday of every month. The event is part of Navy Day Celebrations and has gained prominence over the years in the city's calendar. The marathon will feature four race categories: 42K, 21K, 10K, and 5K. The race route, accredited by the Association of International Marathons, was explained during the briefing. A cumulative prize pool of approximately 10 lakhs will be awarded to winners across various categories. Furthermore, the Race Director announced that as a tribute to the "City of Destiny," citizens will benefit from a reduction in registration costs, with more features added to goodie bags, fresh refreshments, free T-shirts, participation certificates, lucky draw participants and many more. The Black Buck, the mascot for the ninth edition of the Vizag Navy Marathon, symbolizes the legacy of Andhra Pradesh, being its State animal, and is also inscribed on the Crest of INS Visakhapatnam. This symbolizes the long-term association and synergy between Indian Navy and the State. The event will also highlight the government's Reduce-Reuse-Recycle policy aimed at achieving a Plastic-Free environment.
