The annual ‘Ganga Sagar Mela’ conducted by Govt of West Bengal every year is currently underway at Sagar Island from 08 - 17 January 2023. On request from Govt of WB, Indian Navy has deployed two teams of Specialist Divers at Kakdwip and Sagar Island with Inflatable Boats and Diving Equipment for providing Search and Rescue SAR cover to the event. The specialised Indian Navy Diving Teams will operate in waters of Hooghly and Bay of Bengal, and patrol entire stretch of waterfront expected to be utilised by over 30 lakh pilgrims for bathing in river/ sea. The Teams are operating in close coordination with WB State Administration and Marine/Coastal Police.
