Family members of Late Mahavir Singh, PO CD-I comprising Mrs Jyoti Verma (wife) paid homage at National War Memorial on 01 March 2023. Flower petals were placed at 'Tablet' and laid a wreath at memorial. Late Mahavir Singh, PO CD-I as a member of MARCOs team deployed for Op Rakshak in Bandipore, J&K. On 12 August 1999, his team was tasked by team commander to carryout Area Domination Patrol. During operation, militant succeeded in detonating a landmine, thus halting the advance. The sailor was tasked to defuse the balance landmines. He along with his commander, commenced a low belly crawl towards the rest of landmines and defused two landmines. He, thereafter came under heavy fire from militants. Displaying excellent field craft and fire power both MARCOs returned fire. On approach to last landmine, the militants remotely donated landmine, thereby instantly killing both M Singh PO CD-I and team commander. Late Mahavir Singh, PO CD-I displayed exceptional courage and made supreme sacrifice for nation.
