Indian Navy assists rescue operations of boat accident at Malappuram

An incident of tourist boat capsizing with 40 tourists onboard was reported from Ottumbram near Tanur, Malappuram district of Kerala on the night of 07 May 2023. The site of the incident is approx 150 km from Kochi. On the request of assistance from the Govt of Kerala, a Naval helicopter with air crew diver was immediately launched from SNC, Kochi on 08 May 2023. Initial aerial survey of the site of incident was undertaken. Contact has been established with NDRF and local diving team undertaking search in the area. Multiple sorties of naval helicopter are planned to aid the civil administration with the ongoing search operations. Concurrently, three naval diving teams comprising 15 divers along with all necessary diving sets, gear and equipment have been mobilised from Kochi. The team is likely to reach the site of incident soon and assist in local diving Operations. A close coordination is being maintained with the disaster management and state authorities to augment the search operations.
