In an untoward incident, a boat carrying four fishermen had capsized off Muthalapozhi fishing harbour at Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala on 10 Jul 2023. Diving assistance was sought by the district administration to locate the missing fishermen. The site of incident was 180 km from Kochi. A Naval diving team of six divers along with necessary equipment and inflatable crafts was immediately deployed from SNC, Kochi. An aerial search was undertaken by Naval aircraft to locate the missing boat and crew. Based on the inputs from locals and district administration, the search operation by Naval divers was undertaken. The depth in the area was 10-15 metres. Spot diving was undertaken at various locations and search operation was continued with inflatable crafts. The bodies of missing fishermen were recovered and handed over to local police.
