INS Sahyadri and INS Kolkata are in Sydney to participate in 27th edition of Exercise Malabar along with USNavy (USN), Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) and Royal Australian Navy (RAN). Exercise MALABAR is scheduled from 11 to 21 August 2023. The opening ceremony of MALABAR was held onboard HMAS Choules on 11 Aug 2023. RAdm Christopher Smith, Commander Australian Fleet (COMAUSFLT) delivered opening address, which officially marked the commencement of Exercise Malabar. Diplomats, senior naval officers, Fleet Commanders, Commanding Oficers, Officers and sailors of four participating nations participated in the event. VAdm Dinesh K Tripathi, FOCINC, WNC participated in the ceremony as head of the delegation from Indian Navy. The Opening Ceremony also included traditional rituals by Aborigine community, a band performance by RAN Band and Australian Federation Guard and culminated with a Ceremonial Sunset Ceremony.
