An Indian fishing vessel named 'Suja Mol' had reportedly capsized and sank off Kanyakumari in the evening of 28 Sep 2023. A request was received from Fisheries Department of Tamil Nadu to locate the missing fishermen trapped in sunken boat on 03 Oct 2023. INS Nireekshak and INS Jamuna were deployed in the area to undertake search and provide diving assistance. Based on the inputs from local fishermen, an extensive search was carried out in the area by INS Jamuna and sunken boat was located about 39 nm off Kanyakumari at a depth of 57 meters. The Naval Diving team of INS Nireekshak undertook deep sea diving for more than eight hours at the site. Mortal remains of one missing fisherman in the sunken boat was recovered and handed over to the local authorities.
