INS Sagardhwani, India's indigenous Marine Acoustic Research ship based at SNC, Kochi set sail for the fourth edition of Sagar Maitri on 11 Oct 2023. The ship's mission was conceptualised in accordance with Prime Minister's vision of SAGAR towards scientific research initiative MAITRI. The ship was flagged off by Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary Department of Defence R and D and Chairman DRDO in presence of RAdm Upal Kundu, CSO(Training), SNC. During the deployment, the ship would be revisiting tracks of INS Kistna which actively took part in the historical International Indian Ocean Expedition IIOE in 1962- 65. The ship will be visiting Muscat and participate in wide range of scientific interaction and seminars. The Sagar Maitri expedition would pave way for greater collaborative scientific ocean research with countries of IOR.
