Commodore Abhinav Barve, Commodore Naval Oceanology and Meteorology, along with Captain TS Ramanathan, Officer-in-Charge of School of Naval Oceanology and Meteorology represented Indian Navy in inaugural Stakeholder Consultation Workshop for the Development of a National Framework for Climate Services for India (NFCS-India) at the premises of ChristCollege, Lavasa on 5 – 6 Oct 2023. The NFCS-India initiative which is being spearheaded by Ministry of Earth Sciences MoES and steered by India Meteorological Department IMD, aligns with the Global FCS, aiming to establish a comprehensive framework for climate services in the country. The scope of IN’s role in future of NFCS was discussed at forum and ideas put forth on standardised met equipment and procedures across organisations were well received for further deliberation with IMD. The conference was presided by Dr M Ravichandran, Secretary MoES, Dr M Mohapatra, Director General Meteorology, and attended by distinguished scientists and heads of stakeholder organisations across the country.
