Visit of the European Union Parliamentary Delegation to WNC on 20 Dec 23

A 06 member EU Parliamentary delegation visited WNC, Mumbai on 20 Dec 2023. The delegation consisted of Members of European Parliament representing Parliamentary Sub-Committee on Security and Defence SEDE. The delegation, led by HE Nathalie Loiseau, MEP, Chairperson, SEDE, interacted with VAdm Dinesh K Tripathi, FOCINC, WNC and other senior officers from WNC. The visiting delegation was given a presentation on roles, responsibilities and operational activities of WNC. The delegation discussed varied topics of common interest including avenues for EU-India strategic security and defence cooperation, addressing Maritime Security challenges and climate change. During visit, delegation was taken onboard latest Indigenous warship, INS Chennai. The delegation also visited MDL wherein they were apprised of indigenous ship building capabilities of MDL and various projects underway. India and EU are party to Maritime Security Dialogue, which is conducted annually and India- EU Naval cooperation has grown substantially. The two sides have also participated in joint anti-piracy operations off Somalia and present visit aims to further strengthen naval cooperation. Indian Navy is a partner at Combined Maritime Force and has been actively participating in several EU steered multinational mechanisms. The current visit by EU Parliamentary delegation to WNC would further strengthen relationship between two sides and enhance cooperation in maritime domain.
