INS Baratang, while on a routine patrol in Palk Bay, received a distress call from an Indian origin fishing boat MM MFB 'Matha', around 11 PM on 04 April 2023. The ship immediately reached to the position. Communication with the boat was established and on enquiry it was revealed that five fishermen among crew of 12 were injured. The injured crew members were brought onboard using ship's boat and were provided medical assistance and first aid. Post treatment, injured crew members were sent back to their boat.
