In a solemn ceremony at National War Memorial, heartfelt floral tributes were offered to Late Shri Mahipal Yadav, Ex-POUWl (SD), Shaurya Chakra of INS Savitri, a Battle Casualty, who made supreme sacrifice in line of duty during an operation at sea on 29 Jul 1996. Petty Officer Yadav volunteered to undertake first dive as he considered that his experience would prove useful in the conditions of rough sea and fading light prevailing at that time. Inspite of extremely difficult working conditions Petty Officer Yadav carried on his task undeterred and succeeded in disentangling the line thus removing danger to the ship. During the hazardous task of disentangling the hose line, Petty Officer Yadav suffered injuries and succumbed to death. Petty Officer Mahipal Yadav, displayed conspicuous gallantry extreme devotion to duty and made supreme sacrifice.
