SNC observed International Coastal Cleanup Day on 16 Sep 2023 with focus on clearance of plastic/ non -biodegradable waste along waterfront and coastal areas in and around kochi. Pursuant to the nationwide campaign of Puneet Sagar Abhiyaan, more than 500 Naval personnel and families undertook cleanup drives at different coastal areas spread across the city. In Kochi, more than 25 km of coastline comprising beaches and waterfront areas at Mahatma Gandhi, Fort Kochi, Puthuvype, Puthenthode, Dronacharya beach, Thevera Waterfront, Willington Island, Bolgatty, Queens Walkway, COPT Walkway and Venduruthy channel were cleaned. More than 1800 kg of plastic and non-bio degradable waste was collected and beaches were restored to their pristine condition. Webinar on Marine Environment, Poster Making Competition, and Environmental Quiz were also conducted towards inculcating importance of conserving coastal and marine environment in schools. Similarly coastal cleanup drives and lectures/ webinars/competitions emphasizing Puneet Sagar Abhiyaan were undertaken at other outstation Naval units located at Lonavala, Jamnagar, Chilka, Coimbatore, Goa, Ezhimala, Malad (Mumbai) and Lakshadweep Island.
